Convert GIF to MP4

An animated GIF stores every frame as a separate picture, so it is big and slow to load. As an MP4 the same animation is usually a fraction of the size, and apps that won't post a GIF take it. Convert it here, on your own device.

Your file stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to convert GIF to MP4

  1. Choose your GIF file.
  2. Pick "Plays everywhere" (H.264) or "Fastest".
  3. Press "Convert to MP4", check the preview and download.

Nothing is uploaded. The conversion runs in your browser, so there is no upload wait and no copy of your video on a server.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about how this tool works on your device.

Does the MP4 loop like the GIF?

The MP4 plays once, like other videos; most apps and sites can loop it, and Instagram and TikTok loop short videos on their own. Colors usually look better than in the GIF, which only has 256.

Is Snipmill free?

Yes. Snipmill is free to use and needs no account.

Is there a watermark?

No. We never add a watermark.

"Plays everywhere" or "Fastest": which one should I pick?

"Plays everywhere" re-encodes the video to H.264, which phones, computers and TVs play. "Fastest" keeps the original video when the MP4 format allows it, so it takes seconds and the quality is unchanged, but HEVC video may not play on older Windows PCs.

How big can my file be?

Up to 2 GB on desktop Chrome and Edge, 1 GB on desktop Safari and 500 MB on phones.
