How to make a ringtone

  1. Choose the song (MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC) or a video with the sound you want.
  2. Pick iPhone or Android, then the part: play, pause where it should start and press "Use current time". Up to 40 seconds for an iPhone.
  3. Press "Make ringtone". It gets a short fade in and out and an even volume.

Putting it on an iPhone

iPhones take ringtones as M4R files of up to 40 seconds. With a Mac: connect the iPhone with a cable, select it in Finder and drag the M4R file onto it. With Windows: do the same in the Apple Devices app or iTunes. Without a computer: open the file in Apple's free GarageBand app and share it as a ringtone.

Then choose it in Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Ringtone.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about how this tool works on your device.

Why 40 seconds?

iPhones play at most 40 seconds of a ringtone, and longer M4R files may not show up in the list. Text tones can be shorter, a few seconds is enough.

Can I make a ringtone from a song I bought?

Songs bought on iTunes since 2009 have no copy protection, so they work. Music saved from Apple Music or Spotify for offline listening is locked to those apps and can't be used.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

Is Snipmill free?

Yes. Snipmill is free to use and needs no account.
