Transcribe a meeting recording
Turn a recorded meeting or call into text you can skim, search and paste into your notes. No bot joins your call, and the recording stays on your device.
Your file stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
How to turn a meeting recording into text
- Choose your a meeting recording.
- Pick the language, or leave it on Detect automatically.
- Press "Transcribe". Fix any word, then copy the text or save it as TXT, SRT or VTT.
From recording to notes
Choose the recording file that Zoom, Teams or Meet saved, or a phone recording of the room. Nothing joins the call and nothing is sent to a server, so it also works for meetings that must stay private.
Copy the text into your notes app and write the decisions and action items at the top. The times next to each line help when someone asks what exactly was agreed.
When several people talk at once, those lines come out worse. Lines are split at pauses; the model does not label who is speaking.
What you get
- The text, split where the speaker pauses. Fix any word right in the page.
- Times for every line. Click a time to hear that part again.
- Copy it, or save it as a text file (TXT) or as subtitles (SRT or VTT) for a video player or YouTube.
- Translate to English: speech in another language comes out as English text.
How fast and how accurate
The first time, your browser downloads the speech model (145 MB). It is kept for next time, so later recordings start at once.
In our test, a 96-second lecture took about 5 seconds on a Mac laptop in a Chrome-based browser, using the graphics chip. Without one, the same laptop took about 32 seconds. Phones are slower. You see the text appear while it works.
Clear speech in English gives the fewest mistakes. Other languages work too, with more mistakes; names and rare words are the usual errors, so read it through before you share it.
Your files stay on your device
Nothing is uploaded. The speech model runs in your browser, so your recording is never sent anywhere to be transcribed. Lectures, meetings, interviews and voice notes stay private.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Short answers about how this tool works on your device.
Which meeting recordings work?
Recordings saved by Zoom (MP4 or M4A), Microsoft Teams and Google Meet (MP4), and any phone recording. For a video only the sound is used.
Is Snipmill free?
Yes. Snipmill is free to use and needs no account. Each recording can be up to 60 minutes long, and there is no daily count.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
Which languages does it understand?
It uses OpenAI's Whisper speech model, which knows about 100 languages. Pick yours from the list, or let it detect the language. English is the most accurate.
How long can a recording be?
Up to 60 minutes per file on the free plan, and you can turn as many files into text as you need: we don't count them. For a longer recording, cut it into parts with Audio Cutter. More with Premium is coming soon.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in Safari and Chrome. Newer phones use their graphics chip and are much faster; on older ones it still works, just slower. Keep the page open while it runs.
