Resize a video for Instagram

Make your video 4:5, the tallest shape the Instagram feed shows, or 9:16 for Reels. It takes up more of the screen than a wide video.

Your file stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to resize a video

  1. Choose your video.
  2. Pick the shape: 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Shorts, 4:5 for the Instagram feed, 1:1 for a square, 16:9 for YouTube.
  3. Fill the frame (the sides or top are cut off; the preview shows what stays) or show everything with black bars. Then press "Resize video".

Which shape for which app

Phones show vertical video full screen, so a 16:9 clip from a camera wastes most of the screen on Reels, TikTok and Shorts. Cropping the middle to 9:16 fills it. If the important part is at the edge, use black bars instead so nothing is cut.

Size and quality

We make the result at most 1080 pixels on its short side, the size these apps show, and never bigger than your video: a 720p clip stays 720p sharp instead of being blown up. The sound is kept as it is. The video is encoded as H.264 MP4, which every app accepts.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about how this tool works on your device.

Should I use 4:5 or 9:16 on Instagram?

4:5 for a post in the feed, 9:16 for a Reel or a story. The feed shows posts up to 4:5, so a taller video gets cut in the feed preview.

Can I choose which part stays when cropping?

Not yet: the crop keeps the middle of the picture. If your subject is at the side, choose "Show everything" so nothing is cut off.

Are my videos uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your videos stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

Is Snipmill free?

Yes. Snipmill is free to use and needs no account.

Is there a watermark?

No. We never add a watermark.
