Remove background noise

Turn down the fan, hum and hiss under a voice, make the speech clearer and the loudness even. Compare 10 seconds before and after first.

How to remove background noise

  1. Choose the recording or video.
  2. Pick how much noise to remove, and whether to make the voice clearer and the loudness even.
  3. Press "Hear 10 seconds first" and switch between Before and After. When it sounds right, press "Clean up sound".

What it can and can't remove

It learns the steady sound under the voice and turns it down: fans, air conditioning, computer hum, traffic rumble, the hiss of a cheap microphone. That is the noise in most home and office recordings.

It can't take out other people talking, music, a dog barking or a door: those change all the time and sound too much like the voice you want to keep. Strong removal on a very noisy file can make a voice sound thin or watery; Light is the safer start.

  • Clearer voice: cuts low rumble, gently evens out loud and soft words, and adds a little presence so speech is easier to follow.
  • Even loudness: sets the whole file to −16 LUFS, the level of most podcasts, with no clipping.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about how this tool works on your device.

Does it work on a video?

Yes. Choose the video: the picture is copied as it is and only the sound is cleaned. You get an MP4.

How is it different from online voice enhancers?

Many of them send your file to their servers and rebuild the voice with a large AI model. Here the cleanup runs on your device with classic noise reduction: more natural on light noise, less dramatic on very bad recordings, and nothing is uploaded.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so your files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

Is Snipmill free?

Yes. Snipmill is free to use and needs no account. Recordings and videos can be up to 30 minutes long, and up to 10 files at once.
