Remove the location from a video
See where a video says it was filmed, then get a copy without the location, camera or date. The picture and sound stay exactly the same.
Your file stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
How to remove the location from a video
- Choose the video (MP4 or MOV, for example straight from your iPhone or Android phone).
- See what it holds: the place it was filmed and the camera, if the phone saved them.
- Press "Remove location", then download the clean copy or send it from your phone.
What a phone video can tell about you
Phones save the GPS position where a video was recorded inside the file, along with the phone's make and model and the date. Photo apps use it for their map. But the file keeps it when you send it as a file, post it on some sites or put it in a shared folder, and anyone can read it with free tools.
That is how a video filmed at home can give away your address. This tool writes a new copy with the same video and sound and none of that information.
- Removed: location (GPS), camera make and model, creation date, software, titles, comments and chapters.
- Kept: the picture and sound, untouched. They are copied, not re-encoded, so nothing gets worse and even long videos take seconds.
How to check if a video has a location
Choose it here: before you remove anything, we show the location we found, or "None found". On an iPhone you can also open the video in Photos and swipe up: a map means it has a location. In Google Photos, open the video and swipe up to see its details.
Every other Snipmill tool leaves the location out of the files it makes too, so a compressed or trimmed video is already clean.
Your videos stay on your device
Nothing is uploaded. Your video is read and rewritten in your browser, which is the point of a privacy tool.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Short answers about how this tool works on your device.
Does it lower the quality?
No. The video and sound are copied exactly as they are; only the information around them is left out.
Doesn't my phone remove the location when I share?
Sometimes. On an iPhone the share sheet has "Options" at the top with a Location switch, and many messaging apps remove it. Files sent as documents, by email, through cloud folders or AirDrop often keep it. Removing it here makes sure.
Are my videos uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser, so your videos stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
Is Snipmill free?
Yes. Snipmill is free to use and needs no account.
Is there a watermark?
No. We never add a watermark.
